The battle of the Somme took place in France near a river called the Somme. The French-British combined force's job, was to drain the German's resources and take ground if the possibility arose. The German's defense armament consisted of concrete bunkers for machine gun emplacements and they changed the thickness and amount of barbed wire to attempt to slow down the assaulting French-British forces. The French-British forces got to the last trench the French-British trenches took was called the Desire Support trench. The German armies were broken after the British artillery bombarded the German defense line collapsing many of the concrete bunkers and machine gun nests.
